The Benefits of Dental Crowns at Balboa Dental Care

Strong and Durable

At Balboa Dental Care, crowns are made of zirconium and lithium disilicate. These materials are remarkably strong (stronger than traditional porcelain crowns). With proper care, your crown may last for up to 10 years.

Natural Appearance

The zirconium and lithium disilicate materials closely resemble natural dental tissue, and Dr. Stragier will spend extra time at no extra charge to make sure the color of your crown matches the surrounding teeth. No one will know your crown isn't a natural tooth!

Protection

Decayed or damaged teeth cause pain when chewing or speaking. The crown acts as a cap that covers the tooth, relieving that pain and protecting the tooth from further damage. Crowns can often prevent the need for tooth extraction.

Dental Crown Timeline

Consultation

All consultations at Balboa Dental Care in San Diego, CA, are free of charge. If you think you might require a dental crown, contact us today to schedule a consultation with Dr. Stragier. During this initial appointment, Dr. Stragier can determine if your damaged tooth needs a crown.

Tooth Preparation

If Dr. Stragier determines that you are a good candidate, the first step is the preparation of the damaged tooth. Damaged or decayed portions of the tooth will be removed, and the tooth will be reshaped to create a base for the crown. While your final restoration is being created, a temporary crown can protect the prepared tooth.

Crown Preparation

The dentist will take an impression of your teeth that will be used to design your custom-made crown. The crowns at our San Diego practice are made of strong materials like zirconium (we can also use porcelain crowns if you prefer). The crown may take up to two weeks to be designed, and Dr. Stragier will use this time to ensure your crown blends in seamlessly with your natural teeth. In the meantime, a temporary crown may be placed.

Crown Placement

Once your new crown is prepared, you can return to our San Diego dental practice to have the crown attached to your tooth. If you had a temporary crown, it will be removed, and then your new crown will be secured to the tooth with dental cement.

Smile!

There is no recovery time involved once your temporary crown has been removed and your final restoration is placed. You may experience mild sensitivity, but this should subside after a few days. Enjoy your improved bite and smile!

I think I was one of his first patients and have remained one for over 20 years.  He is smart, gentle and seems always to have the patient's best interest in mind.   His loyal staff (they have remained the same for the past 20 years) are also very smart and caring.   I now have to travel a bit to see Dr. Stragier, but I would not go anywhere else.

Dr. Stragier, Pam, Terry and the dental hygienists are the BEST I've ever been to.  Dr. Stragier's techniques are very gentle and he doesn't try to sell procedures you may not need. Even my (reluctant patient) husband has done very well there for many years.

Dental Crown Applications

A crown placed at our San Diego, CA, dentistry practice can serve many different purposes. Although this solution is primarily intended to serve practical purposes, there are many reasons why a patient might choose to receive a crown:

Dental Crowns and Cosmetic Dentistry

Damaged teeth can be strengthened with porcelain crowns. If you have a broken tooth that negatively affects the aesthetics of your smile, a dentist can attach a crown to the broken tooth so that you can smile with confidence. These restorations can also be used as an alternative to porcelain veneers to cover a stained tooth that cannot be improved with teeth whitening due to intrinsic stains.

Dental Crowns and Root Canals

When decay reaches the inner portion of a tooth, our dentist may recommend a root canal. After your dentist has performed the root canal, a crown can be placed to protect the weakened tooth while restoring the appearance and function of your smile.

Dental Crowns and Dental Implants

If you are missing a single tooth, the best restoration option may be implant dentistry. Dr. Stragier can work with you to place a dental implant, which can be restored with a crown made of porcelain or a more premium material to completely replace the lost tooth.

Cost

Dental crown treatment by Dr. Stragier at Balboa Dental Care in San Diego, CA, typically costs between $1,200 and $2,000. Costs can vary based on the material used for the crown (porcelain or zirconium) and the severity of the tooth damage. Dr. Stragier regularly reviews the prices of other dentists in the area to ensure that his prices are competitive.

Balboa Dental Care works with most dental insurance providers and offers payment plans for major work, including plans with zero-percent financing for 12 months. We try our best to make sure that cost never stands between our patients and the dental treatments they need.
