Smile Like You Mean It: The Benefits of Porcelain Veneers

Just Like Natural Teeth

Because dental veneers are made of porcelain, they closely resemble the appearance of natural teeth. Furthermore, your unique porcelain veneer can be color-matched to your surrounding teeth for excellent cosmetic results.

Great Longevity and Durability

Dental veneers are thin yet strong and can last for more than a decade with proper care. Because they are stain-resistant, they also look great for many years before needing replacement.

Can Treat One Tooth Or Many Teeth

While each individual veneer covers the visible surface of a single tooth, it is easy enough for your dentist to create multiple veneers and enhance multiple teeth.

Improve Function

In some cases, porcelain veneers can improve the function of your bite by correcting minor tooth misalignment. While braces can take several months to address misalignment, dental veneers can be placed in two to three visits to our dentist.

Dramatic Transformation

Porcelain veneers can dramatically change your smile, brighten your facial features, and improve your self-confidence. When you address issues that make you self-conscious, you can enjoy greater self-esteem in all areas of your life.

Over the past 30 years, Dr. Stragier has used dental veneers to address a wide range of issues. As a cosmetic dentist, he has observed what works and what doesn't, and he can make an honest recommendation about your treatment.

Candidacy Checklist: Do You Qualify for Porcelain Veneers?

Veneers are custom-made for each individual patient, and most patients are good candidates for this cosmetic treatment. Before performing any cosmetic treatment, Dr. Stragier will assess your:

Oral Health

A healthy smile is essential to the long-term success of your cosmetic treatment. During your consultation, Dr. Stragier will assess the health of your teeth and gums. If he notices any outstanding oral health issues, he can treat these before moving forward with your veneers procedure. For your convenience, Dr. Stragier can perform most necessary procedures on-site.

Tooth Enamel

Aside from being free of any tooth decay or gum disease, the most important qualification is a sufficient amount of enamel on the natural tooth. To place veneers, the cosmetic dentist needs to remove a small amount of enamel. If your teeth have only a thin layer of enamel, removing any of it to place veneers may not be the right choice for you. In these cases, Dr. Stragier might recommend dental bonding to achieve similar results.

Oral Hygiene & Habits

Once placed, veneers can be treated like natural teeth. Because porcelain is strong, patients can expect this solution to last for many years. You can maintain your results with basic oral hygiene, including regular brushing, flossing, and visits to the dentist. However, for the longest-lasting results, it is recommended that you avoid using your veneers to bite into especially hard foods such as raw carrots, ice, or hard candy.

Overall Expectations

Before placing porcelain veneers, Dr. Stragier will also meet with you to discuss your expectations. Although veneers can deliver life-changing results, they require a lifetime commitment and cannot be removed without another permanent replacement. During your consultation at San Diego practice, Dr. Stragier will discuss all of the variables with you to help you make an informed decision.

The Veneers Procedure

The entire process takes place during two or three dental visits to our San Diego office.
The entire process takes place during two or three dental visits to our San Diego office.

If you are interested in porcelain veneers, the first step is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Stragier. When you arrive at our state-of-the-art facility, Dr. Stragier will examine your teeth and determine whether veneers are right for you. If you and the dentist both agree to move forward with veneers, another appointment will be scheduled to prepare your smile.

Tooth Preparation

At your next appointment, Dr. Stragier will remove a small amount of enamel from the front surface of the tooth or teeth to prepare for veneer placement. An impression will be made of your tooth, which will be used to craft your custom porcelain veneer at an off-site laboratory.

Fabricating Your Dental Veneers

At the off-site dental laboratory, a group of skilled dental ceramists will use your impressions and Dr. Stragier's designs to create your dental veneers from tooth-colored dental porcelain. High-grade dental porcelain is used to achieve natural-looking results. Each veneer is carefully crafted to match the color, shine, and texture of your tooth surface.

Placing the Permanent Veneer

After about two weeks, your dental veneer will be complete, and you can come back into the office to have it bonded to your tooth. The entire process takes place during two or three dental visits to our San Diego office.

Is the Process of Getting Veneers Painful?

Although most patients can complete the treatment with local anesthesia alone, patients with sensitive teeth or dental phobia can choose to undergo sedation during their procedure. This can help you relax during what might otherwise be a stressful appointment. Our dentist offers two types of sedation: nitrous oxide and oral sedation.

Dr. Stragier, Pam, Terry and the dental hygienists are the BEST I've ever been to.  Dr. Stragier's techniques are very gentle and he doesn't try to sell procedures you may not need. Even my (reluctant patient) husband has done very well there for many years.

How Much Do Veneers Cost?

The total treatment cost will vary based on each patient's unique goals and needs, but a single porcelain veneer costs approximately $1,200 to $1,300.

Because the procedure is a form of cosmetic dentistry, it is not covered by dental insurance. However, Balboa Dental Care offers financing options to make dental veneers an affordable option on virtually any budget.
