Dental Bridges

Tooth loss can make it difficult to eat your favorite foods. It can also make you feel self-conscious about the way you look.

A custom dental bridge can fill the gap left by a missing tooth, restoring the appearance and function of your smile.

Learn how San Diego, CA, dentist Dr. Daniel E. Stragier uses custom dental bridges to fill gaps caused by missing teeth...

What Is a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge is a false tooth that is anchored in place with dental crowns. The crown is referred to as a "pontic." When crafted from dental porcelain or other tooth-colored materials, the bridge closely resembles the patient's natural teeth.

With a bridge in place:

  • You can bite and chew normally
  • You can smile with total confidence
  • You won't experience speech impediments related to tooth loss

Let's take a look at a dental bridge in action...

Dental Bridges vs Dentures

/

Like dental bridges, dentures replace lost teeth. The solution Dr. Stragier recommends for you will depend on how many teeth are missing. While a dental bridge is used to replace a single tooth or several consecutive missing teeth, dentures are used to replace a complete dental arch. Traditional dental bridges are held in place with dental crowns, while traditional dentures simply rest on the gums, held in place with a mild adhesive. Both solutions can be supported by dental implants if you choose.

Implant-Supported Bridges The Benefits of Dental Implants

Dr. Stragier is a dentist who can coordinate dental implant placement to make your bridge stable and prevent jawbone atrophy.

Dental implants are artificial tooth roots that are surgically anchored into the jawbone. The implants are made of titanium or other biocompatible materials. During a months-long recovery period, the dental implant fuses with the jawbone in a process known as osseointegration, allowing it to provide the ultimate support to a crown, bridge, or denture.

Implant bridges offer a number of dental health benefits in addition to numerous cosmetic advantages

The Treatment Process How Dental Bridges Are Made

Initial Consultation

During your initial consultation, Dr. Stragier will assess your overall oral health and discuss which dental treatment options may be ideal for you.

Prepping Your Teeth

If a dental bridge seems appropriate, the teeth next to the gap are prepped so they can support crowns and hold the pontics (false teeth) in place.

Taking Impressions

We will take impressions of the gap and prepped teeth. These are used as references when fabricating your bridge to ensure a precise fit and natural appearance.

Crafting the Custom Bridge

The custom bridge is created at an off-site dental lab. Skilled technicians ensure the dental bridge is as natural-looking as possible.

Final Bridge Placement

When the final bridge is ready, patients return to our San Diego practice. We check the fit and make adjustments as needed before the bridge is cemented in place.
