Types of Dentures
Full Dentures
When you think about dentures, a traditional removable prosthetic is likely what comes to mind. These restorations consist of a full arch of prosthetic teeth attached to a gum-colored acrylic base. A traditional full denture stays in place by suctioning onto your gums and can also be supported with a mild dental adhesive. While traditional removable dentures are not as secure as important-supported dentures, they are generally the most affordable treatment option and will significantly improve your dental function.
Partial Dentures
Some patients with extensive tooth loss still retain one or more healthy natural teeth. If this is your case, you may be a candidate for partial dentures. Our dentist will attach a metal framework to the natural teeth that the partial denture clasps onto for support. This provides the prosthetic teeth with additional stability, preventing the denture from slipping around on the gums. Traditional partial dentures are custom designed to correct your unique type of tooth loss and can prevent remaining teeth from migrating out of place.
Implant-Supported Dentures
Revolutionary dental implants have changed the way patients can live after tooth loss. Implants are placed within the jawbone and become a permanent fixture in your smile. Once the jaw heals after placement surgery, implants provide an incredibly secure and natural-feeling foundation for an implant-supported denture.
Since dental implants actually replace the missing roots of a tooth, they stimulate the tissues in the jaw and prevent bone atrophy. Furthermore, implants keep your prosthetic teeth fixed in place, making for convenient maintenance and fully restored dental function.
Ask our dentist if you are a good candidate for traditional implant dentures or All-on-4® implant dentures during your free consultation at our San Diego dental office.
We Place and Restore Dental Implants For Convenient Care
Our dentist can both surgically place your implants and design and place your new implant-supported denture. Many other dentists around San Diego have to bring in an outside specialist for implant placement and gum care, disrupting the continuity of care. When you work with us, every step of the process will be handled by one dentist and his trustworthy dentistry team.

Oral and Overall Health
In order to qualify for dental implants, patients need to have sufficient jawbone density. If you have suffered bone recession in the prolonged absence of tooth roots, you may be able to restore your candidacy with a preliminary bone graft procedure or receive All-on-4 implants without a bone graft. Certain conditions like a smoking habit and uncontrolled diabetes may put you at higher risk for implant failure, so if you want to receive implants, you should speak to your general care provider about resolving these issues.
Budget
Dental implants involve a more extensive and complex procedure than traditional dentures. If your budget is one of your primary concerns about treatment, then we typically recommend removable prosthetics. Traditional dentures do not require the surgical steps of implant treatment and will be more affordable with dental insurance.
Long-Term Goals
It is important to remember that dental implants are the only form of treatment that protects you from jawbone atrophy after tooth loss. Although implants can be a significant upfront investment, they can eliminate the need for costly invasive treatment in the future.

"Dr. Straiger is the absolute best." 5-Star Reviews
Dr Stragier is the absolute best. He is gentle, honest, experienced, and he KNOWS his stuff. After 10 years of great care, I tried a dentist closer to my home, but I came back, because Dr Stragier is worth the drive. His staff is also amazing. I’d give them 10 stars if I could!

View on GoogleInsurance and Financing For Your New Dentures
Dentures are a restorative treatment, so your dental insurance provider should help cover them. Insurance should also help cover any preparatory treatment you may need, such as gum care or tooth extraction. Implant-supported dentures are an important exception—while most insurance will help cover restorations, implants themselves are not covered by basic insurance.
Our San Diego practice accepts most forms of dental insurance. If you are uninsured or concerned about high out-of-pocket costs, there's no need to worry. We also accept financing through CareCredit® and offer payment plans for more complex work, like implant-supported dentures.
Still worried about whether you'll be able to afford the dental care you need? You should know that our fees tend to be around the 80th percentile of what other San Diego dentists charge. This means you'll be able to take advantage of high-quality care at prices you can afford.
