All-on-4 Dental Implants

Dental implants and restorations are a sturdy solution to missing teeth, but people with low bone density may not be good candidates.

The All-on-4® dental implant method can support a full denture without the need for bone grafting first.

Dr. Daniel E. Stragier can place your All-on-4 dental implants in San Diego, CA, to restore the look and function of your smile.

Missing teeth can impact your self-esteem and oral health, so it can be discouraging to be told you're not a good candidate for dental implants. Fortunately, the All-on-4 method is an effective solution for patients who have low bone density. Request a consultation at our San Diego, CA, dental practice today.

What Is the All-on-4 Method?

Dental implants are titanium posts that can be surgically placed into the jaw to provide a sturdy base for dental restorations, but if you have low bone density, you may not be a candidate for traditional implants. The All-on-4 technique is one solution. This method uses just four implants to hold a full arch denture in place.

Your dentist can determine which areas of your jaw have the highest bone density and place the four implants in those areas. The posterior implants are placed at an angle to maximize your bone density and lead to a more comfortable fit.

Our Patients Are Our Priority

"Dr. Stragier and his team are phenomenal! I had an emergency situation about 2 years ago and they got me in immediately. From the moment I called I knew this was the practice for me. They make their patients a priority." Google Reviewer Brittany Jenkins 2022

The All-on-4 Method Can Save Your Oral Health

Your natural tooth roots stimulate your jawbone each time you bite down. When you lose a tooth, those roots are no longer able to aid in that stimulation. Your jawbone begins to atrophy, leading to issues like loose teeth and sunken facial features.

Once implants have been placed, they will fuse with your jawbone over the next three to six months in a process called osseointegration. Your dental implants will mimic the function of natural tooth roots to prevent bone atrophy, promote oral health, and maintain your appearance.

Am I a Good Candidate for All-on-4 Implants?

The All-on-4 technique offers an alternative solution for many San Diego area patients who do not qualify for standard implants; however, there are a few factors that can affect your candidacy. To qualify for All-on-4 implants you must:

Have Significant Tooth Loss

The All-on-4 method is used to treat patients who are missing most or all of their natural teeth. Alternative dental plans may be recommended for those with less extensive tooth loss.

Be in Good Health

To undergo this surgery, candidates must be in good overall and oral health, aside from their missing teeth. Certain conditions like uncontrollable diabetes and periodontal disease will need to be managed before implant surgery. Tooth extraction may be required to remove any unhealthy teeth.

Quit Smoking

Smoking increases your risk of complications during surgery and your chances of implant failure. Our dentist recommends that you quit smoking well before your implant procedure.

The All-on-4 Process What You Can Expect Throughout Treatment

Our experienced dentist can effectively place and restore implants for his San Diego patients. For more complex dental cases that require implants, Dr. Stragier works with trusted surgeons to ensure patients receive the best possible care. Your treatment will involve several steps:
The All-on-4 technique can restore your appearance and your oral health.
The All-on-4 technique can restore your appearance and your oral health.

Free Consultation

During your consultation at our San Diego, CA, dental practice, Dr. Stragier will evaluate your oral health to determine if All-on-4 implants are your best treatment option.

Planning Treatment

After any preparatory treatment like tooth extractions, our dentist will use your X-rays to determine the best areas to surgically insert your dental implants. Areas of the jaw with higher bone density will be used to ensure each implant has a sturdy foundation.

Anesthesia

Before we begin your procedure, we will administer a local anesthetic to ensure your comfort. If you have dental anxiety or trouble sitting still for long periods, sedation can also be used to keep you relaxed.

Implant Placement

Our dentist will make four small incisions in the gums along your dental arch to access your jawbone and place your implants.

Osseointegration

Once your implants have been securely placed, our dentist will attach a temporary denture so you can have normal oral function until we can place your permanent denture. Over the next three to six months, your implants will fuse with your jawbone through osseointegration.

Attach Denture

After your dental implants have fused to your jaw and your gums have fully healed, our dentist can attach your permanent denture. With proper care, your denture should last for more than a decade, but your implants can last a lifetime.

Are There Any Risks?

/

Though it's normal to experience mild bleeding, swelling, and soreness following implant surgery, your risk of infection is low when you choose an experienced and skilled dental surgeon like Dr. Stragier. Be sure to follow all post-operative instructions to prevent infection, as this can lead to implant failure or your implants not fusing to the bone.

Recovery After Dental Implant Surgery

While the All-on-4 method is less invasive than traditional implant surgery, there are some simple things you can do to make your recovery easier.

Get Some Rest

We recommend that you take about a week off work following your procedure. You should take this time to rest and avoid any strenuous exercise or physical activity.

Use Medication

Inflammation and discomfort around the surgical site are normal following surgery. Any pain can be managed with over-the-counter medication, and you can apply ice to minimize swelling.

Brush Gently

You should still maintain good oral hygiene while you heal from your procedure but be sure to brush gently around the surgical site.

Eat Soft Foods

Your diet should consist of only soft foods until your dentist says you can reintroduce solids. Hard or crunchy food like nuts, chips, and apples should be avoided until your implants have fully fused to the bone and your gums have healed.

Visit Our Office

You will need to come into our San Diego, CA, practice several times following your surgery so Dr. Stragier can ensure you are healing properly and that there are no signs of infection.

Following Dr. Stragier's post-operative instructions will help ensure a fast and successful recovery.

Paying for All-on-4 Implants

The cost of dental implants varies from patient to patient. For example, patients with oral health issues like periodontal disease will require preparatory procedures, which will increase their overall cost. Our San Diego, CA, dental practice accepts most forms of dental insurance, and we also offer payment plans and financing options.

Our practice takes pride in providing our patients with quality dental care at a price they can afford. Your insurance plan may contribute to the cost of your implant-supported denture but will not cover your All-on-4 implants. Fortunately, our prices are usually in the 80th percentile when compared to other San Diego area practices, so treatment is more affordable.
