Dental Implants

Missing teeth can be embarrassing and uncomfortable. If you are missing a tooth, you probably know how it feels to hide your smile.

Dr. Daniel Stragier and his team provide patients with dental implants so they can enjoy long-lasting tooth restoration.

Learn how Balboa Dental Care in San Diego, CA, can help transform your smile with dental implants.

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are used to replace missing tooth roots. They provide much-needed stimulation for your jawbone and support lifelike restorations.

Parts of dental implant crown
It takes three parts to restore your smile with dental implants: implant posts, abutment pieces, and restorations. Depending on how many teeth you're missing, your restoration can be a crown, bridge, or denture.

The Benefits of Dental Implants

Durability

If you practice good dental health habits and follow your dentist's instructions, your dental implants can last for 40 years or longer. While the restoration attached to the implant will someday require replacement, the implant itself can last a lifetime.

Jawbone Strength

Tooth roots provide stimulation to the jawbone. A missing tooth can cause the jawbone to atrophy, potentially leading to misalignment of your teeth and distortion of your jawline. Working in place of the missing roots, dental implants can stop further atrophy.

Easy Maintenance

Maintaining proper dental hygiene with implants is easy. You can care for your implant-supported restoration such as a bridge, crown, or denture, just like you care for your natural teeth. Brush and floss daily and visit the dentist twice a year.

Dental Implant Treatment Spans Several Months

It takes around four to six months for your implant posts to fuse with your jawbone.
It takes around four to six months for your implant posts to fuse with your jawbone.

Consultation

Our dentist, Daniel Stragier, will review your medical history and discuss your goals to assess your candidacy. If he determines that implants are right for you, we can begin planning your treatment.

Initial Surgery

Dr. Stragier will apply local anesthesia to thoroughly numb the treatment area, but you can also choose to receive sedation. He will make small incisions in your gums and place the titanium or zirconia implant posts that will be the foundation for your new smile.

First Healing Period

The first healing period takes four to six months. During this time, the titanium or zirconia implant posts will fuse directly to your jawbone in a process called osseointegration.

Abutment Placement

The component that attaches a titanium or zirconia implant post to a dental restoration is called an abutment. During this second surgery, the abutments are connected to the implants.

Second Healing Period

The second healing period is much shorter than the first. During this time, your gums will heal around the abutments.

Restoration

The final step in the process involves attaching bridges, crowns, or dentures to the abutments. Once completed, you can enjoy all the benefits of your new smile!

Nervous About Treatment?
Sedation Can Help

/

Dental implants can be placed using only local anesthesia, but if you're feeling anxious about the procedure, you can receive oral conscious or nitrous oxide sedation. These options induce a state of deep relaxation to ensure your complete comfort.

Dental Implants at Our San Diego Dentistry Practice

Depending on the complexity of your individual case, Dr. Stragier may perform implant surgery. To provide you with the best dental implants San Diego has to offer, our dentist works with trusted oral surgeons for more advanced cases. Our team is dedicated to your oral health and general well-being. To ensure you have an anxiety-free experience, sedation is always available to you.

Whether you are missing a single tooth or an entire arch, we provide implant-supported restorations to meet your needs. If you are missing a full arch of teeth and are tired of dealing with dentures, Dr. Stragier offers Teeth-in-a-Day implants at our San Diego, CA, dentistry practice.

An Investment in Your Quality of Life

Modern dentistry provides numerous options to replace missing natural teeth. Thanks to state-of-the-art dental porcelain, traditional bridges and dentures are an affordable way to fill the gaps in your smile. Unfortunately, these options do not stop jawbone atrophy. Dental implants are the only treatment that supports your health by stopping further bone deterioration.

With traditional dentures and bridges, continued atrophy leads to changes in your facial features. This requires frequent adjustments to restorations to ensure they continue to fit properly. The costs of these adjustments add up over time, not to mention the number of trips you have to make to the dentist.

Implant-supported dentures and bridges do not require such frequent adjustments. Because they are anchored securely to implants, they also do not shift around. For many patients who have chosen dental implants at our San Diego, CA dentistry practice, the long term health and quality-of-life benefits outweigh the upfront costs.
